Wallpapers come in many types, from vinyl to bamboo. Most wallpapers have an outer layer of vinyl, textile, paper, or bamboo, and an inner adhesive layer. How to Remove Wallpaper

It may be that you prefer one over the other depending on what type of wallpaper you have. The most important ingredient is hot water.
Method 1: Steam removal
- Do not overfill the steamer. Don’t overfill the steamer.
- Attach the handle to the steamer plate. Connect the machine to the power source and turn it on.
- Wait until the machine starts to heat up. The majority of devices have indicators that will let you know when the machine has reached its full potential. This could take up to 10 minutes.
- Tape down sheet plastic on your floor and baseboards to catch wet paper or drips that fall.
- Press the trigger 15 to 20 times. Remove the plate immediately.
- Start peeling off the wallpaper immediately with the putty blade.
- If it doesn’t work, use the wallpaper scoring tool. Steam the section again, and then try to peel it off.
- Continue the process until all wallpaper has been removed.
Tips
Never paint over wallpaper. Paint over wallpaper can make wallpaper removal difficult.
Wallpaper steamers are the best way to remove wallpaper from plaster walls. Though the plaster may crack if you leave the steamer running for too long.
It can be difficult to remove wallpaper from drywall because they are both paper-based and adhere well together.
The removal of wallpaper from drywall can be made easier if the drywall has been painted with semi-gloss paint or gloss paint.
The majority of wallpaper adhesives contain modified wheat starch. The starch is easily broken down by hot water.
Method 2: Homemade Wallpaper Remover
White vinegar and hot tap water are all you need to make your DIY wallpaper remover! It’s also super cheap and environmentally friendly.
Solution: Add 1/3 vinegar to 2/3 water
Alternative: Add 1/4 of fabric softener per 3/4 of hot water
It may be that you prefer one over the other depending on what type of wallpaper you have. The most important ingredient is hot water.
Remember:
– The hotter the water, the better it is for activating the wallpaper adhesive.
– After spraying two panels of wallpaper with vinegar, I waited 2 minutes for the adhesive to activate.
– You’ll need to refill the spray bottle often if you want the water to be hot enough to work.
It did work but I had to exert extra effort in order to pull the paper from the wall. The paper ripped and came off in small shreds. It was the least effective method I tried.
Method 3: Liquid Stripper
- The wallpaper stripper bottle’s nozzle should be turned to “on”.
- Use a sponge and spray the product on an area of about 2 feet by two feet.
- Wait five minutes for the product to penetrate the paper.
- Wipe away any drips.
- Then, gently lift the paper with the putty blade. The knife should not be used to scrape the wall or gouge it. The wallpaper should come off easily.
- Score the wallpaper if it is not easily removed. Make a hole every inch square.
- Let it sit for 5 minutes and then apply more wallpaper remover product.
- Repeat the process by lifting the wallpaper with the putty blade. It may be necessary to repeat this process several times in order to remove all of the wallpaper.
